Shamir, Mordechai

Moti, Ben Aliza, and Avraham z “l, was born in Tel Aviv on December 20, 1953. Moti was drafted into the IDF in August 1972 and assigned to the Armored Corps. After basic training, he completed a course in Armored Corps and Armored Corps courses, and graduated with a high grade. Four months before the war broke out, his father died, and out of his loyalty to the way his father had set before him, Mutti saw it as his duty to continue on the path of the father, who was so proud of him. In July 1973, Moti was sent to a tank commanders course. When the Yom Kippur War broke out, the course was stopped and Motti, who was then a sergeant, was sent with his unit to Sinai. He took part in the braking battles against the Egyptian forces that had crossed the Suez Canal and in one of the battles his tracks disappeared and he was considered missing. It later became clear that he had fallen in battle near the Chinese Farm on the 7th of Tishrei 5740 (7.10.1973), when he was commanding his tank in battle. He was laid to rest in the cemetery in Sde Warburg. Survived by a mother and sister. After his fall, he was promoted to First Sergeant.
