Shamgar (Gemerschmidt), Shmuel


Son of Avraham and Miriam. He was born on the third day of Hanukkah in the city of Dubno, Poland, in 1937. His parents immigrated to Israel in 1937. His father immigrated to Israel in 1937, 1949, after his mother perished in the Nazi crematoria.) He completed his studies at the Hebrew Technion in Haifa and was awarded the title of structural engineer. Even when he was a student, he belonged to the Haganah. Served as a Boulder Hunter; For over two years (1940-1942) – in the Palestine Police; In 1943, he enlisted in the British army and served in the Engineers Corps in Syria, Egypt, Tunisia, Corsica and Italy until his liberation in 1946. With the outbreak of the War of Independence he joined the Haganah and in April 1948 he was drafted into the IDF. On the 9th of Av 5714 (9.8.1954) he fell in the line of duty and was put to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. After his death he was promoted to lieutenant. He left a wife and a daughter.
