Shamash, Aharon (Sa’adi)


Son of Yehezkel and Frida. He was born in 1944 in Baghdad, Iraq, and immigrated to Israel in 1951. He studied at the Carmelit Elementary School in Tirat Hacarmel and at the Kibbutz Neot Mordechai High School, where he spent three years as a member of the youth group. He also studied at two courses of Youth Aliyah at the Neurim Institute and received good certificates, and in 1962 he worked in the garage and the owners testified that he was talented and that his work was to their full satisfaction, and he was an enthusiastic sports enthusiast (especially soccer). From his spare time he also devoted himself to animals he loved very much, and he participated four times in a four-day march He was full of joy, great energy and great cheer, and was drafted into the IDF in mid-February 1962, fulfilling his duties in the army, as in civilian life, out of loyalty and dedication. At the beginning of May 1969 he was called to reserve duty. On the 27th of Sivan 5729 (June 4, 1969), he fell in an encounter with an ambush of terrorists in Gaza. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul
