Shamai, Gilad (Gili)
Son David and Bluma. He was born on the 16th of Av, July 30, 1950 in Rosh Pinna. He studied at the Wilkomitz Elementary School. He was loved by his teachers and all the students.
He was gifted with a healthy sense of humor. After completing his studies there, he studied at the Amal vocational high school in Safed, took part in Gadna activities and also liked to play ping pong. After graduating, he came to work in a factory in Kfar Hanasi, where one of the foremen praised him as a diligent and beautifully disciplined laborer. He was never content with work alone. After finishing his work, he cultivated his hobby of collecting key chains, and used to collect matches. In the evenings, he would always round up the boys of his age and spend time with them. At the time of his enlistment in the IDF, Gilad decided to avenge the blood of his brother Amikam, who died (not within the framework of the IDF) while preparing the land of the Jewish National Fund in Korazim. He wanted to be a paratrooper as his brother was. In May 1968, when he was drafted, he approached the paratroopers but because his parents was opposed to it, he was transferred to Golani and was among the best soldiers. Throughout his service he would say to himself: “It will not happen to me”. During the course of his duties, north of Kibbutz Dan, he fell into the hands of a squad of sappers who attacked and killed him, on the 4th of Cheshvan, October 26, 1968. He was brought to eternal rest in the Rosh Pina cemetery, where a memorial monument was erected in the name of “Amal” in Safed.
