Shalom Ziv
Son of Tony and Isaac. He was born on December 29, 1953 in Romania. The youngest son in a family of five. When Ziv was nine years old, the family immigrated to Israel and established their home in Kiryat Shmona. Ziv began his elementary studies in Romania. He continued at the Korczak elementary school in Kiryat Shmona and at the Amal vocational high school in the automotive mechanics course. At the age of sixteen he moved to study and to be educated as a youth member of Kibbutz Naot Mordechai. After school, Ziv worked in the kibbutz garage and acquired skill and experience in automotive mechanics and agricultural equipment. Due to his professional training, Ziv was intended to serve in a special professional course in the Ordnance Corps. Prior to joining the IDF, he signed a commitment to serve for one year in the career army as a condition for entering the professional track. He completed basic training and was sent to a car mechanic course. Later on, he went on to an advanced automotive mechanic course and a diesel mechanic course. He trained himself as a driver of a half-track vehicle and a bus in 1974. He joined the army in the course of his professional training course in 1974. He spent most of his service in the Golan Heights, serving as a vehicle examiner in garages. Ziv took the rank of corporal from the rank of sergeant to the rank of sergeant, and during his service, Ziv married Ruth, who established their home and expanded their family on the birth of their four children. A department manager in a good and efficient manner, showing initiative and high personal power. Very dedicated, quiet and disciplined. Accepted by his subordinates and commanders. “On December 12, 1986, he fell during his service. Ziv was brought to eternal rest in the military section of the Kiryat Shmona cemetery. Survived by Raya – Ruth, three sons – Tal, Ofir and Tamir, Daughter Daughter of – El, and four brothers – Israel, Mordechai, Moshe and Aryeh. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, his commander wrote: “Sergeant Ziv Shalom served in our unit for twelve years. He served in various positions, senior and vital. Throughout his service he showed great concern and responsibility to his family … “
