Shalom, Ilan


Son of-Luna and Yehuda. Born on December 6, 1966, in Netanya, the second son of a family of four. Ilan attended the Ussishkin Elementary School in Netanya in a high school in the mechanics track. At the beginning of August 1985, Ilan was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), where he was assigned to the infantry brigade of the Givati ​​Brigade, where he went on basic training, The latter was operational activity on the northern border, in the Hermon region, and Ilan was intended to continue his combat course in the course of squad commanders. On the 19 th of Tishrei 5747 (October 19, 1986) Ilan fell in the line of duty. He was killed in a traffic accident on the Mount Dov highway in the Hermon region, during his departure from the post where he was on assignment. He was laid to rest in the military section of the cemetery in Netanya’s son of-Zion neighborhood. Survived by a father, two sisters – Irit and Limor, and brother – Moshe. In a letter of condolence to the bereaved family, the commander of the unit wrote: “Ilan was a quiet and introverted guy, but everyone who knew him saw how he volunteered to carry out every task, helping his friends, working tirelessly from dawn to night and always with a smile on his face. For the sake of all and for this reason, he wanted very much to go to the squad commanders’ course. Only two weeks had passed between him and his ambition. Ilan was a good friend and fighter. “
