Shalom, Chaim


Son of Eliyahu and Esther. He was born in 1950 in Iraq, and immigrated to Israel in 1951. Chaim studied at the elementary school in Maoz Zion. Because of the state of his parents’ health, he could not continue his studies, and went out to help them with their livelihood. He was a member of a sports organization, excelled in basketball and soccer, and was a natural hiker and mountaineer. He was drafted in February 1968, and assigned to the Artillery Corps. In the vicinity of the Suez Canal, he was hit by a shell, while running to a bunker. He fell on the 4th of Cheshvan, October 26, 1968. He was brought to rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
