Shalom, Benjamin (Michael)


Son of Rachel and Joseph, was born on the 19th of Iyar 5624 (23.5.1924) in the Old City of Jerusalem. Benjamin-Michael grew up in the Mahaneh Yehuda neighborhood, graduated from the “Doresh Zion” school, studied frameworks and worked there. During the struggle against the British, he joined the Lehi underground and was nicknamed “Michael.” In the framework of the Lehi Brigade in Jerusalem, he participated in the explosion of the British armored vehicle that protected it and the occupation of Ein Kerem and Katamon. He was a strong-hearted fellow, friendly to his friends, and very timid. Participated in the attempt to break into the Old City. In this action he was wounded twice and lost one of his eyes. When he recovered from his wounds, he returned to service and served as a weapon in Lehi’s weapons depot in Jerusalem, and he perished in an explosion in the Lehi camp on 25 July 1948. He was buried in Sanhedria in Jerusalem. On the 9th of Cheshvan 5711 (8.11.1951) he was transferred to the eternal military cemetery at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
