Shalit, Michael (“Mickey”)

Shalit, Michael (“Mickey”)

Michael, son of Rudolph and Margaret Shalit, was born in Koenigsberg, Germany, on June 18, 1926. The family immigrated to Eretz Israel in 1937. He was drafted into the IDF in August 1950 and served in the War of Independence and the Sinai Campaign. He served in the reserves from time to time, as was the case before the Six-Day War, when he fell on duty on the second day of the battles, 27 Iyar (6.6.1967), when he was hit by the explosion of an enemy plane in his camp. Michael was placed in a mass grave in the military cemetery in Haifa.
