Shai Tamir Shavei


First son of Frieda and Shalom. Shai was born in Acre on June 29, 1957. Three years later, his sister Anat was born and his brother Ze’ev was born in 1966. At the age of two, Shai began to be educated in the kindergarten on Acre’s Giborey Sinai Street, He began his studies at the “Tomer” elementary school, and Shai was always an outstanding student, and even then his teachers noticed the charisma and authority he demonstrated and the rising image of the leader. In addition to his studies, he was active in the Scouts movement in the city, became a guide and underwent various kashrut programs In August 1975, Shai graduated from the IDF. He underwent basic training in the maintenance corps, and later served as a guide. At the end of his compulsory army service Shai served in the career army. Upon his release, Shai went to study at the University of Haifa. At the same time, in 1980, he enlisted in the Israel Police. In 1981 Shai met Yaffa, and at the end of the year they married. In April 1983, their firstborn, Roi, was born. A few years later he was born with me. In 1991, Omri was born, and in March 1999 Sapir was born. Along with his family life, Shai invested all his efforts to advance and make a career in the Israel Police, where he saw his future. Indeed, his abilities were expressed in his excellence in the police course and in the symbol course. Two years later, Shai went to the officers’ course and graduated with honors. Shai began his career as an officer in the reconnaissance unit of the Zevulun police, then as a youth officer, and continued as a platoon commander in an officers’ course. In 1994 Shai was appointed head of the tour office in Acre, and continued his academic studies at the University of Haifa and completed his BA in political science. In January 1998, Shai was appointed commander of the Ma’ona police station. In October Shai was appointed commander of Kishon Detention Center. Shai succeeded in his position and two years later was appointed commander of the Akko station, the city where he lived. Shai’s appointment has pleased the city’s residents. All the inhabitants saw him as a savior, and felt safe in the city. In 2001, Roi, Shai’s eldest son, was drafted into the IDF and later joined the Israel Police, the third generation in the family, and Shai fell during his service on December 26, 2002. At the age of forty-five He was buried in the military cemetery in Nahariya, leaving behind a wife and four children, a mother, sister and brother.
