Shahar (Shwartz), Ehud


Son of Aharon (Artek) and Aliza; Grandson of the first settlers – Yenta-Leah and Noah Zabarsky. Ehud was born on February 11, 1936, in Kibbutz Merhavia. The third generation there. He graduated from the educational institution there. He belonged to the Ha-Shomer ha – Tsa’ir youth movement. When he joined the IDF in August 1954 he served in the Paratroopers Brigade and fell with his seven comrades-in-arms in battle with the enemy at the gates of Gaza on February 28, 1955, and was brought to rest in his kibbutz. That year the kibbutz published a booklet in his memory. It was also mentioned in Uri Milstein’s book, “The Paratroop Wars.” The book “Six Days” was dedicated to his memory.
In his memory, volleyball matches are held on “Magen Ehud” between groups from Kibbutz Artzi.
