Shagbi (Sharabi), Benjamin
Was born on December 16, 1927 in the city of Shar’ab, Yemen. Two months old, you were married to his mother and six months old – from his father. He grew up in the house of his brother and his brother’s wife nursed him. He had many illnesses as a child. In 1937 he immigrated to Israel with his brothers and family, who settled in Petah Tikva. Benjamin attended elementary school until the sixth grade, and because of the poor condition of the family he began to work, first in the dairy and then in a factory, and he tried to complete his knowledge in an evening school. In the last years of Mandatory rule he was active in the Etzel underground and later in its combat brigades until the Irgun joined the IDF in July 1948. He participated in the battles, was wounded once in the leg and once in his face but impatiently did not wait for his full recovery and returned to his battalion. “Horev.” Benjamin was hit by shrapnel from a shell at a position near Rafah and fell on Thursday, 6.1.1949. Buried within limits. On the 16th of Av 5709 (August 11, 1949) he was put to rest in the Nachlat Yitzhak military cemetery.
