Shafir (Einsprosh), Dr. Moshe

Son of Yocheved and Benjamin, he was born on December 30, 1949, in the city of Szczecin, Poland. His family immigrated to Israel in 1950. At first the family lived in the Mahane Israel transit camp, and later moved to a permanent residence in Yehud. He was a student of the “Herzl” elementary school, and completed the comprehensive high school, both in Yehud. Moshe was drafted into the IDF in early August 1968 and was assigned to the Golani Brigade. After his training course, he was a Golani instructor and was later assigned to the Intelligence Corps, where he specialized in technical photography, and this was love from childhood, since his father had a photography studio and Moshe could use the studio’s sophisticated equipment for his needs. Upon release from the army, Moshe went to Italy and studied at the Faculty of Medicine in Bologna. During the six years of his studies he married Havatzelet, and the couple had a son and a daughter. When the family returned to Israel, Moshe chose to specialize in orthopedics, and did so at Assaf Harofeh Hospital. He was very punctual in his work, sociable and beloved. In addition, Moshe was responsible for the photographic equipment in the department and documented in his photographs the interesting medical cases. In his spare time, he expanded and nurtured his hobby – photography – and took great pictures and developed artistic pictures of nature in particular. When the Peace for Galilee War broke out, the medical officer Moshe was called to active duty and sent to the hospital in Safed to assist the local staff in treating the wounded. He spent nights and days caring for the many wounded, almost without rest. On the 23rd of Sivan 5742 (14.6.1982), the medical officer Moshe fell in the line of duty and was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. After he fell, he was awarded the rank of lieutenant. He left behind a wife, two sons, a daughter, parents and two brothers.
