Shafak, Menachem


During the Second World War, he enlisted in the British Army and was assigned to the 606 Company of the Israel Defense Forces. He served in Egypt and in the Western Desert – in Marsa Matruh and Tobruk. In March 1941, he was sent to Greece with the force intended to stop the German invasion of this country. About a month later, the corps surrendered and most of its men were taken captive. Menachem was also among them. He was held in German captivity for four years, and died on 7 Shvat, January 21, 1945; his burial place is unknown.
