Shadmi, Yoav

Ben Dorit and Yoram. Born in Jerusalem on September 29, 1980, a younger brother of David and Jonathan, Yoav grew up and grew up in Ra’anana, where his parents set up their home about a year before he was born, attended the Bartov Elementary School in the Alon Junior High School And at the Mor Metrowest High School, a curious child with many varied interests, whose years of life were filled with endless curiosity, in which he studied, interrogated, and asked, and at the age of seven he discovered the world of computers and became a “real madman.” Learned English through the computer and progressed so significantly that he was accepted into an English-speaking class at elementary school, and so in middle school and high school, where he chose to deal with computers as a profession During his high school years Yoav was characterized by two parallel motifs that preoccupied him significantly beyond the hours of study – computer and volunteering. In the computer field, Yoav was a partner in the construction of international projects in a company that developed computer simulation software for the Macintosh. That their Israeli partner, who became responsible for the development of the complex and innovative software, is a high school student Yoav participated in the computerization project of the school and was one of the founders of the Metro-West school website. Yoav also underwent a first aid course at the Magen David Adom branch in Herzliya, where he became a regular volunteer until his induction into the IDF, and during his stay in MDA he helped his friends, some of whom were older than him, in computer projects. At the same time, during his eleventh and twelfth grades, he volunteered regularly at Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva. He would come once a week to the intensive care unit, for an eight-hour shift from 15:00 to 23:00, and help the medical staff. The more Yoav grew, the more varied his interests grew. He was a real intellectual, and when he found interest in the subject, he looked for the shortest and most convenient way to learn it quickly and successfully. He has read many books about army and politics, sports, science fiction and computers; He loved music all over, from pop to classic, and even played the piano and organ; He was interested in the general history, history and current events of the State of Israel. At the same time, he built a computer at night and developed software, as part of his international activities. Yoav was a fan of two sports teams – the Maccabi Haifa football team and the Maccabi Tel Aviv basketball team. His friends say that he was not a better sports commentator. He was able to analyze and explain the political activism of sports in general, and of his two favorite groups in particular. Yoav also had solid and solid views on the political and socio-economic politics of the State of Israel. During summer vacations, he worked in the field of computers, medical and hi-tech companies. “Yoav, with the knowledge that was hidden in him, and who acquired it not in an organized framework, but with personal interest only, reached the level of knowledge and knowledge in the fields of the computer world, which are beyond the requirements of first-degree students at the university,” said his older brother, David, who holds a bachelor’s degree in computer science. He was a virtuoso in software and software interoperability. ” This fact dwarfed what was required of him as part of his main profession in high school, but Yoav, who was a man of deeds and not of words, gave no verbal expression to this, and even his computer teacher did not know his level, , And she gave this expression in his words to his memory, on the anniversary of his death: “In the ordinary relationship of a teacher and a student, the teacher teaches and the student learns.Class and division of roles between them is known and fixed in advance. Each side comes to know the rules and is willing to take part in this common game. The situation was different with Yoav. On a subject he so loved and knew, he would often miss classes. He just did not show up. It is very possible that Yoav preferred to learn quickly and quickly himself, in front of the computer, everything that was to be learned, and felt that he did not need me – his teacher. “Yoav was a humble, humble and humble young man, so that many of his friends did not know his intellectual abilities, and his prefabricated qualities, which were expressed voluntarily and uncompromisingly to the aid of others. , But his high school classmates had no doubt that Yoav was destined for greatness, and before he enlisted in the IDF, Yoav requested a six-month postponement of the army, with the intention of conducting tests for various units. He was prevented from doing so due to a delay in determining his medical profile He was assigned to the Israel Defense Forces at the end of November 1998, and served in the Armored Corps as a tank driver, and began his service at the Armored Corps’ Magen Siyarim School, on 28 December 1998, In the course of his duties, and he is eighteen years old. He was laid to rest in the military section of the cemetery in Ra’anana. Survived by his parents and two brothers. To commemorate his memory, a memorial corner was erected at the Magen David Adom station in Herzliya, where the two main motifs of Yoav’s short life are expressed. In the corner, a sophisticated computer system has been installed for the use of MDA volunteers, so that they can integrate studies and volunteering, which is a corner of life, a vibrant corner of young people, a corner of the corner, operating 24 hours a day. Lt. Col. Gadi, commander of the unit, wrote to the family: “In the short time that was with us, Yoav stood out in his intellectual thinking, in the nature of his character and on the way From his conversations with his friends I learned that Yoav was modest in his ways, friendly and wise. ” Varda Ofir, the school’s class coordinator, said: “It’s unbearable to think that the innocence and childishness that was in him, the look through the glasses, is gone and will not come back.” Yoav, who rarely spoke, was always there, doing what he wanted to do. , Whose friends he is a “computer genius” – Yoav, who was a student – and I do not remember his strong political opinions, which he uttered aloud.after his death, when I visited his home, I saw how he had varied interests from politics and political science to science fiction. He grew up in a wonderful house, and how quickly his life ended, and the many qualities that remained hidden. ” On the anniversary of his death, Avital On, the daughter of his classmate, eulogized him: “Yoav – you were a special person, and only people who were close to you knew how to cherish your special qualities – modesty, the will to help, wisdom and the joy of life … I do not know how many people are standing in this hall, You did not see any need for respect but for action, you did not need the lights of the stage, but the quiet and the privacy behind it. , And you are certainly looking at us now, from above, with a typical half-smile, with a calm mind and asking yourself – ‘All this for the sake of You? “
