Shachori, Yehoshua (“Shuki”)

Son of Zvi and Shoshana, members of Kibbutz Yad Mordechai since its establishment. He was born on November 17, 1946 in the kibbutz. After graduating from elementary school in the kibbutz, he attended the educational institution there and finished high school. He became a sports instructor and was a youth counselor in Hashomer Hatza’ir. Was conscripted into the IDF in November 1964 and continued his mandatory service on a permanent basis, reaching the rank of lieutenant colonel in the paratroopers, and was responsible for his subordinates and security in the hearts of everyone.In the outbreak of the Six-Day War there was a need to deepen defense excavations and extend them as much as possible Together with all the paratroopers in his unit, fell in a battle near Gaza at the Eli Montar outpost near the city when he tried to rescue an injured soldier from a tank that was hit by a fire and a shell hit the burning tank again, killing him on the first day of the battles. (5.6.1967) was brought to rest in the cemetery at Kibbutz Yad Mordechai, after which he was promoted to the rank of lieutenant. His father, Zvi Shachori, also fell in the War of Independence, and the commander of Yehoshua’s unit wrote in his letter of condolence to his mother: “His dedication to his soldiers knew no bounds. His demands were known to the entire battalion and they brought his department to achievements we had never known before.
