Shachmon, Meir


Son of Aziza and Shlomo, was born in 1907 in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq, and in 1944 immigrated to Israel by land. Meir sat down with his wife in Jerusalem and worked in tailoring. During the War of Independence he served as a soldier in the city and its surroundings, was injured during the shelling of the city and was killed on June 22, 1948. He was succeeded by a wife and four children, and his memorial was erected in the military cemetery at Mount Herzl in Jerusalem Space is a makal – a space whose burial place is unknown.
