Shachar (Shurzbart), Avraham (Joe)


Son of Genia and David, was born on April 8, 1948 in Poland. He began his studies in his native country, where he completed his first two elementary grades. In 1957, at the age of 9, he immigrated to Israel with his family. The family settled in the Ashkelon area and from there moved to Moshav Amatz in the northern Sharon. Avraham skipped third grade and five years completed elementary school and junior high school. He continued to study at the “Amal” vocational school in Hadera, in the field of agro-mechanics. In 1965 he began his studies at the IAF Technical School in the field of aircraft mechanics. In April 1966, Avraham enlisted in the Israel Defense Forces and served in the Israel Air Force, where he underwent basic training and fought in the Six Day War, and was sent to professional courses after the war, and was promoted to the rank of rabbi “ninth. He was placed as a guide and promoted to the rank of sergeant. In preparation for his release from the regular army, he was offered to serve in the regular army. Avraham was accepted and appointed as a senior instructor. The opinion of his commanders was: “He is a comfortable and efficient soldier … with the ability to organize and control.” His ascension as a seamstress was rapid. In March 1970 he was awarded the rank of sergeant, and a year later was promoted to the rank of major sergeant, and in December 1973 he received the rank of major sergeant, and fought in the Yom Kippur War and after the war returned to his post as a senior instructor in the aviation school. He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant in May 1976. In May 1976 he was appointed as a maintenance officer in a squadron of jet fighters, and in March 1978 he was promoted to the rank of captain. And was in charge of the Fugue base at the IAF base where he served Maj. Despite his illness, he continued studies and advanced training course. In 1984 confirmed its officers leaving for studies at Bar-Ilan University, Department of Political Science, but on Tuesday Sivan Tsm”d (03/06/1984) Abraham died of a Lev attack. He was 36 when he died. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Haifa. He left behind a wife, three sons, a mother, a brother and a sister. In a letter of condolence to his family, his commander briefed Avraham on Avraham’s service and his contribution to the IAF as commander of the inspection division at the base: “His eyes were open to everything that took place in the maintenance system. He spent most of the day in his service, and throughout his years in the air force, for 18 years, his devotion, responsibility and love for the air force stood out “
