Shabtai, Jonathan (“Yoni”)


Son of Aryeh and Esther. He was born on September 6, 1950 in Tel Aviv and attended the Horev Elementary School and the Bnei Akiva High School in Ra’anana, where he received a high school diploma. He was a sports fan, played soccer and basketball, and was a member of the “Scouts” movement. He was also active in a choir of the religious youth movement in the Tiferet Israel Synagogue. His generosity attests to his dedication to the activities of Magen David Adom and the certificate given to him for blood donations. He used to visit relatives of patients to encourage them. In this way he strove to help others and wanted to express his love for the homeland. Yoni was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in mid-May 1969. He wanted to be a pilot, but when he was not allowed to volunteer for the paratroopers, he volunteered to be a combat paramedic, and when he went to the army his father begged him to beware of the danger. If he did not go, who would go to protect us? “Even when he felt ill, he did not go on vacation and made sure to go down to the Canal area to replace his friends, on the night of 18.5.1970, when he left at night with a weapon and a stretcher to help. He was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
