Shabbat, Ephraim (Samir)
Ephraim, son of Salima and Shabtai, was born in 1948 in Iraq and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1951. He studied at the Amiel elementary school in Tel Aviv. After immigrating to Israel, Ephraim’s family settled in Tel Aviv’s Hatikva neighborhood. Because of the financial situation of the large family, Ephraim began working after completing his elementary studies. At the same time he studied for two years at a vocational school. At first he worked as a trainee assistant in automotive mechanics at the “Chevrolet” garage in Tel Aviv, and later worked as an apprentice at the Aharon garage in Tel Aviv. Ephraim was drafted into the Israel Defense Forces in mid-February 1966 and assigned to the Artillery Corps after completing his basic training course. During his service he participated in the Six-Day War, and after a while he took a course in the half-tracks, completed a good grade and continued to serve in the same battalion as a truck driver, and on his discharge certificate he was noted as a good soldier and a good professional. “In another artillery battalion. After completing his regular service, he worked as a mechanic in a garage in Tel Aviv and recently worked for Leyland in Yehud, and when the Yom Kippur War broke out Ephraim was called to his unit and took part in battles in Sinai.
