Sergosta, Joseph


Son of Esther and Perhiya. Born in 1897 in Jerusalem and raised in the Old City. During the First World War, when the armies of the Arabs conquered southern Israel from the Turks and liberated Jerusalem, Joseph volunteered for the Jewish Legion, which was organized in the framework of the British army. The aim was to help liberate the country. He continued to serve in a battalion that changed its name to “First to Yehuda” even after the end of the war and on 25 Shvat, February 15, 1920, died in the line of duty. He was laid to rest at the British military cemetery in Ramle.
