Seltzer, Zvi Heinz

Son of Sarah and Moshe. He was born on December 2, 1915, in Dortmund, Germany. His family moved to Kassel, where he attended elementary school, a Jewish school, and a gymnasium. After completing his studies he left for “training” in Denmark and from there immigrated to Eretz Israel and joined the ranks of the Haganah. In Israel he worked in various places as an agricultural laborer. When the bloody riots broke out in 1936 he was one of the volunteers for the defense of Samaria and the Upper Galilee, and also enlisted in the Nutrim corps and served in Rosh Pina. He later joined the night squads under the command of Orde Wingate. In 1939 he enlisted in the British police, served in Acre and Tiberias and was later transferred to a military camp near Safed. Among all his acquaintances, he was known as a modest, kind, disciplined and loved man. On 27 Cheshvan, November 9, 1939, he was killed in a car accident near Safed and was laid to rest in the Haifa cemetery. He left a brother and three sisters. The “Haaretz” newspaper “The Controller” and “Davar” provided details of his life history and the circumstances of his death.
