Sela, Avshalom (“Avsha”)


Son of Yosef and Tova Landau, a veteran family of workers. He was born on December 17, 1935 in the Borochov neighborhood of Givatayim. He studied and was educated at the Berl Katznelson School. He was a counselor in the Hanoar Haoved movement and from his youth he was aware of social and security problems. In January 1955 he was drafted into the IDF as part of the Nahal Brigade. Completed a course for squad commanders and then an officers’ course and reached the rank of captain. He participated in the Sinai Campaign and in every place of danger was discovered as a brave fighter. His commanders and subordinates loved and respected him. In the last year of his life, he took an undergraduate matriculation examination and was accepted to a university in the United States for an administration and public relations course. On the 4th of Tammuz 5762 (July 4, 1962) he fell in a battle in Jerusalem in a border incident and was brought to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul.
