Seichner, Yisrael (Olek)


Yisrael, son of Rivka and Dan Seichner, was born in 1910 in Tarnow, Poland. From his youth he was active in the Hashomer Hatzair movement. When he became a guide, he instilled in his students a spirit of pioneering activity. He studied the history of Israel and the ideas of Zionism. In 1930 he immigrated to Israel and settled in Kiryat Chaim. Yisrael was known as a straight, helpful and hard-working man. At the outbreak of the War of Independence he enlisted and served in the Carmeli Brigade. He was sent to Birva for safekeeping and fortifications, and there he fell during an attack on the 21st of Tammuz (28.7.1948). He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa. He left a wife, Genia, and two daughters.
