Sehayek, Joseph (‘Yossi’)

Son of Sasson and Sima. He was born on September 2, 1945 in Iraq. Immigrated to Israel with his family in 1950. He attended the B State School in Ramle and the Bedek High School in Lod. Joseph discovered his attraction to mechanics and electricity as part of the activities of the Hanoar Haoved Vehalomed movement. At the Bedek school, Yosef acquired his professional training. Over the years he developed a strong love for the landscapes of the country and took part in dozens of marches and trips. He was known as a cheerful, responsible and devoted man to his family and friends. Although he suffered from health problems, he knew how to overcome this and made sure not to worry those around him. Joseph was interested in medical literature, hypnosis and graphology, and his interest in these fields helped him to a great extent overcome his suffering. At the beginning of November 1963, Yosef was drafted into the Israel Air Force, where he served as an aircraft mechanic, and after a regular army service he worked in the air industry. Major-General Sehayek is known as a responsible and devoted soldier, with his work and his unit’s staff as his primary concern. On the 19th of Tammuz 5735 (June 19, 1975) Yosef died during his service, was brought to eternal rest in the cemetery in Ramle, and left behind a father, mother and four brothers, and his family donated a Torah scroll to commemorate his name.
