Segev, Yossi

Ben Bella and Yitzhak Wasser. He was born on July 20, 1948 in Hadera. He spent his early years in Tel Hanan, Haifa Bay and Kiryat Yam. Yossi was very fond of reading, especially fiction and suspense, writing poems and having excellent writing skills, and in mid-February 1966 Yossi was drafted into the army. He began his service in the Paratroopers’ Signal Company, completing a full parachute course. Then he went to the officers’ training course and returned to serve as a battalion liaison officer in the Paratroopers Brigade. During his tenure in the paratroopers he took an active part in various operational activities. He continued to wear the red beret throughout his army service, as well as the wings of the parachute with the green background and the star, indicating that more than fifty drops had fallen. His commanders testified that he was an excellent officer, professional and devoted, with a wide ability to think and analyze, to be articulate and energetic in his work. He completed his compulsory military service and signed his military service. He participated in wars, from the Six-Day War to the Lebanon War. Over the years, he advanced to the ranks of the liaison corps, fulfilling, among other things, the position of commander of the contact company, the commander of the contact battalion, and the commander of the Central Command Command Command. He graduated from the College of Command and Staff, the National Security College, and the International Communication and Electronics Course in England. In 1973 he married Edna and over the years his children were born – Eran, Anat, Oren and Gil. He built his home in Ramat Hasharon. In 1985, Yossi suffered from severe atherosclerosis. He fought the disease and did not give up. Underwent many hospitalizations and painful treatments, but did not let the disease disrupt his normal life. He met all the professional tasks he was required to, dismissing all the advice to “lower the pace,” and his commanders assigned him many more positions. In 1986 he was promoted to the rank of colonel. On the 20th of Cheshvan 5752 (2.11.1991) Yossi fell during his service. He died after a lengthy hospitalization and was put to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. Survived by a wife, four children, a father and a sister – Sarah. He was forty-three when he died. A certificate of appreciation and respect for his service in the regular army was given to his family. From the words of friends after Yossi’s death: “Your death will remain forever in the history book of the Air Force: You have managed to deal with impossible situations and the ability to reach them. “Yossi was not only the commander of his subordinates, but his most loyal and devoted spokesman, who swept around those around him, he had the ability to lead, to be restful and visionary, and he aroused the trust of commanders – a man who loved life, He loved his special occupations, but most of all he loved Edna and his children, and he had the ability to always say what was needed in the right place and time. ” An excerpt from a letter of condolence to the bereaved family that the commander of the corps wrote: “Colonel Yossi Segev, husband, father, friend and friend. You have lost in your death the most precious of all, we have lost one of our best people. “
