Segal, Ze’ev
Son of Riva and Moshe, was born on December 9, 1946, in Russia. Ze’ev was 12 years old when he immigrated with his parents to Israel in 1958. The family settled in Kiryat Gat, where Zeev completed partial studies in a high school until the 10th grade. In January 1965 he was drafted into the IDF and served in the Israel Air Force, after which Ze’ev was sent to a number of technical courses, excelled in his studies and service and advanced in the ranks. He fought in the Yom Kippur War, and after the war was sent to an officer’s course. He completed the course, rose to the rank of lieutenant, and two years later, in July 1975, was promoted to captain. The opinion of his commanders, as an aircraft maintenance officer, was highly praised: “He is very dedicated, responsible, knows his way, has the right judgment.” In 1980, his commanders wrote about him: “He achieved high achievements, he knows how to plan and motivate people, and he has the ability to express himself.” One year later, he was recommended: “He is a very good officer, performs his duties at a high level, is reasonable, has an understanding of human relations,” and then was promoted to the rank of major. Ze’ev participated in the Peace for Galilee War. For his part in the war, as commander of a technical division, his commanders wrote: “Operate and manage the technical division, prepare planes for operational missions and readiness.” Ze’ev stood before another promotion in his position, but on May 3, 1983 he fell during his service. He was 36 years old when he fell. He was laid to rest in the military section of the cemetery in Kiryat Gat. He left behind a wife, two daughters, a mother and a brother.
