Segal, Yosef

Yosef, son of Esther and Yehezkel Segal, was born in 1901 in the town of Mikolintsy in eastern Galicia. He studied in a cheder, an elementary school, and a commercial high school. In 1922, a few years after the First World War, Yosef immigrated to Israel, settled in Tel Aviv and worked as an accountant. As a veteran member of the Haganah, he served in the winter of 1948, when the War of Independence broke out. Yosef was in the Kiryati Brigade guarding the city limits, because he was exempt from combat service. Yosef fell while on guard duty on the Jaffa border on the 16th of Nissan, April 25, 1948 and was brought to rest at the Nachlat Yitzhak military cemetery.
