Segal, Mordechai (Marco)


Son of Dvora and Moshe was born in 1918 in Romania. He studied at a high school and when he was 12-13 he joined a Zionist youth movement. He trained in his profession – electrical technicians – and did a great deal for the sake of immigration from his country, where Jews still enjoyed a relative quiet at the beginning of World War II. His turn to immigrate came in 1941 and when he arrived in Israel, he joined Kibbutz Shamir. In 1945 his parents immigrated to Israel and then left the kibbutz to help them. His father died in a road accident two months after his immigration and the son took care of his mother. Mordechai worked in his profession in Haifa and throughout the years was a member of the Haganah. When the German armies approached the gates of the country, he was recruited on behalf of the center for enlistment in the Yishuv. He joined the “Kiryati” brigade in April 1948. He trained in the Sharona camp and fell on the Jaffa-Tel Aviv border on the 23rd of Nissan 5708 (May 2, 1948). -was laid to rest in The military cemetery in Nahalat Yitzhak.
