Segal, Meir (“Max”)
Son of Yosef and Malka. Born in Romania on 17 January 1937. He completed his elementary studies in Romania and immigrated to Israel with his family in 1950. He went to live in the Geva group where he was educated, graduated from high school, and lived in the group until his enlistment. To the IDF in February 1955. During his service he studied for a year in the Air Force school and continued to serve in the Israel Defense Forces. After his discharge, he worked for the air force and was sent to study in Britain. After serving for several years as a reservist in the Israel Air Force, he underwent a paramedics course and became a combat medic. He was an excellent medic, an exemplary friend and an outstanding soldier, loved by his commanders and comrades-in-arms. In early May 1969, he went on active reserve duty. On the 12th day of reserve duty, 17 Iyar 5729 (17.5.1969), he fell in a clash with terrorists south of Damia Bridge. He left a wife and two children. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. Meir’s friend, Shlomo Marko, dedicated his doctoral dissertation to his memory.
