Schwarzman, Benyamin


Son of Fruma and Daniel, was born on the 7th of Adar, March 7, 1930 in the town of Skolen on the Prut River in Bessarabia, Romania. In elementary school he was among the good students and his teachers and friends were very fond of him. In 1941, when the Germans took control of Romania, his father was taken to an extermination camp, Benyamin, his mother and three sisters traveled from place to place. In the end Benyamin came to Bucharest, joined the Hashomer Hatzair movement and strove to immigrate to Eretz Israel. Benyamin went to Palestine with his comrades on 14 May 1946 on the illegal immigrant ship “Customs Nordoi”. “When he arrived in Israel, he was sent with his friends to the kibbutz “Hashomer Hatzair”. Benyamin was happy to be in Israel. At outbreak of the War of Independence and the fall of his close friends in battle, he demanded that he join them in combat. Upon receiving the draft order, he enlisted in the Israel Defense Forces and completed several courses, including a course in wound dressing. In the IDF he was among the first and the bravest in every operation. ” I said,” I want to be a good and loyal soldier to my homeland. ” On the 6th of Tevet, January 7, 1949, during the operation” Horev “to remove the Egyptian army from Israeli territory, Benyamin was hit by a mortar shell in Rafah and died. He was brought to eternal rest in the Nahalat Yitzhak Military Cemetery.
