Schwarzer, Gad (Gunter)


Son of Herman. He was born on April 24, 2222 in Germany and immigrated to Palestine in 1938. He was educated in a youth group in Ashdot Ya’akov, where he later set up and flourished Kibbutz Beit Ha’arava in the northern Dead Sea. In November 1941, he joined the British Army in order to contribute to the war against the German enemy, and was placed in the British Transport Unit. He died on the way to Malta on May 1, 1943, after his ship “Erinfora” was sunk by German bombers. In the memory of the fallen, 139 soldiers from the unit, whose name was immortalized in a memorial booklet issued by Hakibbutz Hameuchad, in the cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, a ship-shaped monument was erected in memory of those who were missing.
