Schwartzman, Efrat
The eldest daughter of Rachel and Jacob Moshe, a sister to Yonatan. She was born on the 15th of Tevet 5744 (15.12.1983) in the settlement of Ganei Yehuda, studied and was educated at the Savyon Ganei Yehuda Elementary School and at the “Makif Yehud” high school, where she completed her studies in physics and computers. Efrat’s special personality attracted many people – from apprentices, classmates, suitors and friends to teachers. Anyone who looked at her from afar could feel the warmth and tenderness that radiated, and it was not surprising that so many ran nearby. Efrat enlisted in the IDF in early April 2002. She was stationed in the Signal Corps, underwent a naval training course and was sent for guidance. After her passing of several courses, she moved to Nafeh and became the guide of the counselors, and the charisma in which she was so blessed in her movement continued to do wonders here, too, with her bright green eyes, her rare charm, and the occupier’s smile enthusiastically applauding many people, including her commanders. On 12 Elul, 9.9.2003, Efrat stood at the transportation station near the Tzrifin military base where she served, on the main road from Ramla to Tel Aviv. It was a busy hour and at the hitchhiking point dozens of soldiers and civilians were packed. A Hamas terrorist wearing an explosive belt and carrying a bag with metal shrapnel detonated himself while a public transport vehicle arrived. At the time of the explosion, the hitchhiking structure collapsed and was completely destroyed. Eight soldiers and soldiers were killed immediately, including Efrat’s friend, Sergeant Jonathan (Yoni) Peleg, and dozens of people were injured, most of them seriously. She died of her wounds and was not yet 20. She was buried in the military section of the cemetery in Savyon, where a large crowd from all over the country came to her funeral to pay her respects and to take part in her final journey.
