Schwartz, Yosef
Son of Esther and Jonathan. Yosef was born on the 17th of Tishrei, 5709 (1/10/1928) in Hungary. Joseph was only two when his mother died, and his sisters raised him. Upon the Nazis’ invasion of Hungary, he was only twelve years old, and was smuggled to Yugoslavia in hiding Jewish youth. In Yugoslavia, Joseph joined the partisan companies that operated in the forests and served as a smuggler and emissary. In 1946, when he was seventeen, Yosef immigrated to Israel on the illegal immigrant ship Haganah. In the Haifa port he was caught by the British and imprisoned in the Atlit camp. Yosef and five of his friends broke through the prison fence and fled to Kibbutz Beit Oren. Yosef participated in the War of Independence in the Harel Brigade and was one of the pioneers of the Zion Gate who created the first connection with the defenders of the Jewish Quarter in Jerusalem. Then he joined the Negev Brigade and fought in Um Rashrash for the liberation of Eilat. In 1949 he arrived in Nes Tziona, and here began his affair with the settlement he loved so much. Here he met Sonia, who was his wife, where his son Moshe was born, and here he built a magnificent house. After working for 20 years as a driver at Peretz, Yosef resigned from his job and began working as a security officer in the local council. He was one of the founders of the Civil Guard in the village and turned the local branch into the glory of the entire district. In 1974 Yosef joined the police. He has held various positions, such as the Central Committee of the IMI and the PSSH, and established the branch for road safety and accident prevention. Joseph, his friends, had many occupations. However, he did much to mobilize youth in the moshava and also volunteered for the elderly. Joseph was always in the process of doing so was loved by everyone. Inspector Yosef fell during his service on the 17th of Shevat 5746 (5.1.1986). He was fifty-eight when he fell. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Ness Ziona
