Schwartz, Shlomo
Son of Roza and Meir, was born in 1913 in Bukovina, then Russia. At a young age he went to work to support his family. In 1933 he arrived in Palestine as an illegal immigrant but was deported. After a short time he made another attempt to immigrate to Israel and succeeded. At first he worked as an agricultural laborer and later in a building. Shlomo joined the ranks of the Haganah and was an active member of the Histadrut. He was an excellent professional and a loyal and dedicated worker. In 1940, at the recommendation of the Hagana, he began working as a plumber at the Haifa refineries and saw himself not losing a day’s work. On the 17th of Tevet 5708 (30.12.1947), Shlomo was killed in the slaughter at the refineries. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Haifa. He left behind a wife and daughter. During the seven days of the fall, his son was born and named after him.
