Schwartz, Oded
Son of Miriam and Joseph, was born on October 19, 1960 in Ashkelon. Oded attended the Beit Yehezkel Elementary School in Ashkelon. He continued to study in grades 9-10 in the “Tagar” high school and later went with his parents to South America, where his father was on a mission. He continued to study at the American College in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in a biologically realistic direction, and graduated with honors. In October 1978 he returned and three months later, in January 1979, he enlisted and served in the Armored Corps, where he underwent basic training and was sent to the army. The course included tank drivers, and when they finished, he rose to the rank of corporal. In March 1980, Oded rose to the rank of sergeant after passing a Tank Tank course. In October 1980, Oded was promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel, and was placed as a guide in the Armored Corps Officers School. The opinion on him at that time was: “Oded Chayil is very good in training.” In October 1981, he rose to the rank of lieutenant. After completing the officer training course, Oded was transferred to the position of deputy commander of an armored company. When the Peace for Galilee War broke out, he and his company went to Lebanon. On the 17th of Sivan 5762 (June 8, 1982), while fighting near the town of Jezine, the commander of his company was wounded and evacuated. Oded assumed command of the force. A short time later, he also fell in battle. He was 21 years old when he died. Oded was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Ashkelon. He left behind his parents and sister. After he fell, Oded was promoted to captain.
