Schwartz, Eliyahu

Eliyahu, son of Shlomo and Sarah Schwartz was born on April 20, 1927, in the city of Tulce, Romania. He completed four grades of elementary school there. He immigrated to Israel in 1948 via Italy. His father says that at the time of the separation he said to him: “Father, I am going up to the Land of Israel to prepare for you and all the Jews a place where you can sleep in peace.” He always spoke about military service out of respect and childhood and wanted to serve in the army for the defense of Israel. Upon his arrival in Israel, he immediately entered the army. He participated in the War of Independence and volunteered for all the most difficult positions and filled them with honors. Then he remained in the permanent army. He fell in the line of duty on the 12th of Tammuz, 5761 (16.7.1951) and was brought to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul. He left a wife and a son.
