Schwartz, Dror


Son of Pinchas and Yaffa. He was born on August 23, 1937 in Haifa. He completed his studies at the “Hugim” high school there. He belonged to the “HaNoar HaLomed” youth movement and later to the Pioneer Scouts movement. Was one of the most prominent in his group and his friends loved him not only for his cheerfulness and lofty spirit, but also for his dedication to the movement and his activities in it, of which he was also noble. From childhood he liked to travel around and as he got older he went on his walks – and his love for the land and the landscape grew. On his trips, he discovered his special inclination to archeology and when he set out on the road, his eye was open not only to enjoy the sights of the country, but to discover ancient valuables that were hidden in it: Studied their origin and recorded their periods – all of which constituted the great archaeological collection that he left behind. son of-Tu was the director of the Haifa Museum of Art at Neve Sha’anan, where he exhibited all the artifacts he discovered during his leisurely walks and on his weekly tours with two of his friends. He was recruited to the IDF in August 1955 as part of the Nahal Brigade, and throughout his service in basic training and advanced training, he showed willingness to help members and thirst for information (especially in the cruisers), which he saw as a natural continuation of his trips during his activity In the movement), a strong desire to fulfill every role and task, and even courage and enthusiasm (especially in parachuting). On Friday, 10.10.1956, he fell in battle near Qalqiliya, and was brought to an eternal rest in the military cemetery in Haifa. Of his knowledge of the land and of archeology – a profession he loved and devoted himself to with his Lev and soul – a memorial corner was erected in his library, part of his work in archeology, and in his book “Wars of the Paratroopers.”
