Schwartz, Chaim-Aharon

Son of Gitla and Shaul, was born on January 14, 1925 in the town of Zashevo, Romania. His years and studies were in the shadow of the decrees and the Holocaust. His parents, despite their precarious situation, allowed him to attend elementary school and there he found the way to the Zionist movement. When the movement from the underground came to freedom, the time for immigration also came to him. His parents objected, but his conviction and faith overcame their opposition. As a member of “Dror” he underwent short training in the Diaspora and in 1946 immigrated with his friends to Israel and joined a youth company that was educated in Alonim. He called the agriculture and society very much. When his parents told him that their economic situation had deteriorated badly, he decided to move to the city and get drunk so that he could support them, and once again he decided to sever ties with his group. During the War of Independence, he was drafted into the army and served in the Givati Brigade, and in its ranks, fought in the south. During the “Ten Days” battles, after their attack on Negba was repulsed, on July 12, 1948, the Egyptians seized hill 105 north of the kibbutz and blocked the way to it. That night, the Givati fighters attacked and captured this outpost. In this battle he fell on the day of Tammuz 5708 (13.7.1948) and was brought to rest at the military cemetery in Be’er Tuvia.
