Schneider, Joseph (Jay)


Son of-Sarah and Pinchas was born in New York on May 1, 1960. In his hometown he completed 11 years of elementary and high school, and in the summer of 1976 he joined the United States Marines, In June 1977, he was discharged from the army and began working as a laborer, and in the summer of 1979 he made a decision to live a religious life and immigrate to Israel, where he was sent to Israel to study Hebrew in an ulpan in Kibbutz Yavneh. Yosef joined the IDF in November 1979 and served in the Golani Brigade. He was sent to complete his knowledge of the Hebrew language at the Military School for Education. After completing his studies he returned to training in his unit. He was recognized as a lone soldier and continued to view Kibbutz Yavne as his home. Where he also spent his vacations from his unit. On 7 March 1980 he came for a Shabbat holiday in Yavne. Two days later, on the first of Adar 5739 (March 9, 1980), he fell during his service. He was 19 when he died. He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Kiryat Shaul in Tel Aviv. Survived by his parents and brother in the United States.
