Schneider, David
David, son of Esther and Shmuel Schneider, was born in the town of Zborow, Poland, on September 6, 1910. He attended elementary and high school and served in the Polish army. David immigrated to Israel without a permit and arrived at the beginning of the summer of 1937 during the bloody riots. He enlisted in the Haganah and served in the most dangerous places, including Atarot, the Dead Sea, and the pumping stations at Sha’ar Hagai, Latrun and Saris and the water line to Jerusalem. During the War of Independence, David was a driver of armored vehicles on the Tel Aviv-Jerusalem Route and Haifa. David was killed on the way to Haifa on the 15th of Adar II, March 26, 1948. He was laid to rest at the Nahalat Yitzhak military cemetery, and left behind a wife, Chana, and a child.
