Schleifstein, Asher

Son of Rivka and Mordechai. He was born on 22.05.1919 in Lancut, Poland. In 1934 he immigrated to Israel with his family and settled in Petach Tikva. In April 1945 he participated in the battles for the capture of an important position on the southern bank of the Senio River. On 24 Nisan, April 7, 1945, during a battle that developed over the position, the Germans opened fire on its soldiers. In the difficult battle that took place in the shortest ranges, he was seriously injured. In his last moments he tried to throw a hand grenade but his strength did not stand and the grenade exploded in his hand and killed him on the spot. He was laid to rest in the cemetery in Pienza near Ravenna, Italy.
