Scheinferber, Mordechai (Motke)
Son of Hinda and David was born on 14.3.1930 in Jerusalem. He studied in an elementary school in Haifa. Mordechai joined the “Sharsheret” pioneering training program (hachshara) of the Bnei Akiva youth movement in Moshav Sde Ya’akov. Where he enlisted in the Hebrew settlement police, served in an oak farm and then returned home to help the family. Shortly after his return to Haifa, the battles of the War of Independence broke out and Mordechai immediately put himself in service of the Haganah and served in the Carmeli Brigade. He was sent to guard posts in dangerous positions in Haifa and was responsible for them and for families who lived in isolated places. In one of the attacks on a nearby post, several defenders were wounded and could not be removed. Mordechai arrived at the site at great risk and under constant fire dragged and transferred the wounded to a safe place. Upon enlisting in full service, he was sent to a course for squad commanders, where he excelled and became a Sergeant. Although his family needed help from the welfare department for the families of the soldiers, he did not rush to arrange this help, but took care of the parents of his subordinates. Mordechai fought in the battles of Degania and the Upper Galilee. Participated with his battalion in Operation Brosh to destroy the Syrian bridgehead in the Mishmar Hayarden area. The forces crossed the Jordan and even occupied several Syrian authorities, but the next day the enemy launched a counter-attack and forced our forces to withdraw. Mordechai fought in the area of Pardes Chory and fell in battle in this area on the 3rd of Tammuz 5708 (July 10, 1948.) He was laid to rest at the military cemetery in Rosh Pina.
