Schechter, Uri

Son of Haim and Abigail. He was born on the 21 th of July, 1939 in Jerusalem, and from the early years of his childhood, he was interested in technique, especially electricity and radio, and even bought all kinds of instruments and arranged a laboratory for himself. Theoretically, he was able to assemble a radio transmitter and through it he would communicate with other amateurs. He began studying in a high school (the “Adama” school near the “Mizrachi” teachers’ seminary in Jerusalem). But a year later he came to the conclusion that only in the electronics profession could he see his future; He then enrolled in this department of the ORT vocational school, where he excelled throughout his studies and especially in the practical field of the profession. He was a gifted technician with original inventions and at the same time was gifted with a developed literary sense. He was gentle and devoted to his friends and acquaintances, although he was closed to himself. Was drafted into the IDF in November 1958. On April 6, 1960, he died and was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem. The second volume of the comprehensive English-Hebrew dictionary (published by “Yavneh”) and the English-Hebrew dictionary (“Ahiasaf”), which were written by his father, were dedicated to his memory.
