Sayag, Yosef
Son of Jacob and a greenhouse. He was born in 1945 in the city of Achrev in Yemen and immigrated to Israel in Operation Magic Carpet in 1949. Upon completing his studies in elementary school, he was unable to continue studying because his father was blinded and his mother became sick and he was forced to help the family. Aspired to acquire a profession at the Ministry of Welfare’s headquarters in Rosh Ha’ayin and to study. The teachers and friends of the institution recognized his good temperament and his virtuous qualities, with great kindness and love of people. He was loyal to his friends and ready for any social mission. He wanted very much to continue his studies in a vocational high school, but, as noted, because of the difficult situation in the family was obliged to take care of her. Joseph tended to sport and was a football player who brought only victories to his team. In the classroom and in the workshop, he was prepared for every mission and fulfilled his duties faithfully and willingly. He spent the days of the vacation regularly taking every job that came to help him at home. And as usual he also performed his duties in the army. In January 1963 he was drafted into the IDF but was released prematurely because he supported his parents, but later was called to reserve duty and on the first day of the Six-Day War, he was killed on June 5, 1967. He fell near Sheikh Abdul Aziz, He fought for the liberation of Jerusalem and sacrificed all that was dear to him – his life – and he was brought to eternal rest in the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
