Sasson, Moshe

Son of Shafiqa and Shlomo was born in 1930 in Aleppo, Syria. He had learned very well Hebrew and the other issues connected with Palestine. Immigration and agricultural work were always his Lev’s desire. Tried several times to escape to Israel with soldiers from Palestine, but every time he failed. In the meantime, he had accumulated almost all the necessary amount, and then the parents surrendered and paid him the missing, and so he immigrated to Israel in 1945. He spent a few weeks in Moshav Balfouria in a peasant’s house. He was later transferred to Kfar Haroeh and to Kfar Avraham, and at his request, he was transferred to a youth group of Syrian immigrants in Shfayim, and after this group completed its training he remained in another group. After that, he joined the Palmach and joined the Arab division in order to prepare himself for assistance in immigration from Arab countries. At the beginning of December 1948, at the outbreak of the War of Independence, he was transferred to a combat unit in the Harel Brigade, and after training he set out with his battalion to accompany convoys on the way to Jerusalem and Jerusalem itself. He participated in 50 battles, including the conquest of Katamon. Fought courageously and devotedly and went willingly to any dangerous mission. In particular, he had been furious ever since he learned of the burning of synagogues and attacks on Jewish hospitals in his hometown, and vowed to avenge the blood and destruction. Even in his last battle, the attack on the radar camp in the Judean Hills, fought face-to-face with the enemy’s men with courage and heroism, and there he fell, on the 23rd of Iyar 5708 (June 1, 1948). On the 25th of Cheshvan 5710 (17.11.1949) he was laid to rest at the military cemetery on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
