Sasson, Herzl
Herzl, son of Sonia and Zion, was born in Yokneam on May 24, 1953. He attended the “Oranim” elementary school in Yokne’am and graduated from the high school in Kfar Yehoshua, August 1971, after completing his studies. After completing basic training, he completed a course for squad commanders in the armored infantry brigade and was sent to serve in the armored infantry company as part of a tank battalion in the Sinai. He was a devoted commander of his position and his subordinates, he fulfilled the tasks assigned to him with precision and completeness, and his commanders and Ehud accepted his comrades in the unit. When the Yom Kippur War broke out, his unit was on the front line in Sinai and came out to stop the Egyptian attacks that crossed the Suez Canal in its sector. On Yom Kippur, October 6, 1973, Herzl was killed and killed in the battle for the city of Kantara, first declared a missing person, and then as a space whose burial place was unknown: seven months after his fall, he was laid to rest in the Yokneam cemetery. After his death he was raised to the rank of sergeant, and in a letter of condolences to the bereaved family, the commander of his unit wrote: “Your son, Sasson Herzl, served in the unit as a combat soldier.
