Sasportas, Reuven
Son of Nissim and Zamila. He was born in 1939 in Meknes, Morocco, and immigrated with his family to Israel in 1949. He studied at the Bar-Ilan School in Be’er Sheva and was conscripted into the IDF in November 1956 and assigned to the Artillery Corps. He was a dedicated and disciplined soldier and a model friend. So he was loved by all his friends and commanders. After completing his regular service, he was called for periods of reserve service. In mid-July 1969 he was called up for an active reserve duty. Ten days after he left for reserve duty in the Suez Canal area, he was wounded in the shelling near Ismailia. Two days later, on the 26th of Av 5729 (26 July 1969), he died of his wounds. He laid a pregnant wife and two children. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Be’er Sheva. The third son, who was born a few months later, was called “Reuven” – after his fallen father.
