Sar Shalom, Israel Meir

Ben-Atal and Shlomo Roni. He was born on the night of Hoshana Rabba on October 6, 1985 in Elon Moreh in Samaria. Ach to Tehila, Or, Batya, Yitzhak, Shilat and Avraham. He spent his first years in the settlement of Elon Moreh. As a child, as a sign of good sleep, he used to sleep with a hammer and screwdriver under the pillow. Later, he discovered a developed technical sense. When Israel was three years old, the family moved to Netanya. He studied in the first and second grades of the Talmud Torah in the city, and completed the third and sixth grades at Alon Moreh at the “Nahalat Zvi” religious public school. When he reached seventh grade he moved to the Bnei Akiva yeshiva in Netanya where he lived in a boarding school. He celebrated the Bar Mitzvah on the day of Hoshana Rabbah, surrounded by friends and family, and was entitled to read four verses that matched his musical talent. Israel had many friends who liked to stay in his home both for “snacking” and for study. Later, when the counselor of the boarding school wanted to tell about Israel, he said: “In what way did I win to be Israel’s guide, a good friend who helps with everything.” Israel was busy studying and preparing for the matriculation exams. At the same time, he was busy renovating the house and driving a lot on his bike. During this period he became acquainted with the children’s movement “Oz”, and after one day of study he became a guide in the movement. The campers loved him very much and, thanks to the positive feedback he received from them, he turned to the Bnei Akiva youth movement when the movement stopped. Israel was a counselor at the Heftziba branch where Ethiopian immigrants were raised, and instead he met Bat-El, his girlfriend. As the mobilization drew near, Israel hesitated to continue its path. Finally, he decided that he wanted to “strengthen himself” and chose to study at the Ma’ale Efrayim pre-military academy. In this framework, he edited the preparatory article for the graduates of “Eighth” – “Preparatory Yeshiva and what is in between”, which refers to the correct choice between walking to a pre-military preparatory program and sitting. In the preface that Israel called for a sensitive soul-searching, he wrote: “So, self-examination means dedicating myself a few minutes a day, simply sitting with myself or just thinking about myself. You know yourself well enough to know what you’ve been through today My advice is that a person should think about what he went through that day and then think how he could have been through that day in a better, more beneficial or happier way. Today, of course, as with any subject, it is difficult to persevere, whether in the form of fitness, learning or practicing self-listening, This is true for every person in our world, and especially for a Jewish person who has a soul that receives its account every night whether the person wants it or not. ” At the end of the school year in Ma’aleh Efrayim, Israel was accepted as a “seamen”. He passed the physical exams, but failed to do so. At the beginning of 2005 he moved to the hesder yeshiva in Karnei Shomron, but when he felt that he could not sit down to study, he enlisted in the army. At the end of March 2005, Israel enlisted in the IDF and was assigned to the Engineering Corps, where he underwent a training course in combat engineering, and he easily addressed the difficulties, including the fact that a medical problem in his knee delayed him and his friends knew that he was loved by everyone and encouraged and supported. (May 10, 2005) Meir Meir fell during his service. He was supposed to arrive at the inauguration of basic training at the Combat Engineers Memorial at the Hulda junction, but he did not arrive. Israel was nineteen and a half years old when he fell. He was laid to rest in the military cemetery in Netanya. Survived by parents and six brothers and sisters. The chief of staff at the time, Lieutenant General Moshe Yael, wrote”Israel began its training as a cadet in the School of Combat Engineering … Israel was very keen to serve and contribute in the engineering corps in particular and in the Israel Defense Forces in general, and its commanders say that it gave a good atmosphere to all those around him. Pleasant and friendly man who has plenty of thoughts and wisdom to elevate the spirit of his friends, the heart is sore for Israel’s untimely death, his memory will always be in our hearts.
