Sandzyshev, Moshe Elazar


Son of Bluma and Meir Lemel. He was born in 1906 in the town of Bedzin, Poland, and after graduating from the “Tarbut” elementary school in the town, he joined the Freiheit youth movement of Poalei Zion and in his youth decided to immigrate to Eretz Israel. He worked as an expert carpenter and on the brink of immigration to Palestine he was drafted into the Polish army, and unlike many others he did not try to evade the service because he believed that he was physically and mentally healthy and he could help defending the Yishuv. in 1930 he made aliyah. He lived in Haifa for four years. At the outbreak of the 1936 riots, he was among the first to respond to the call to enlist in defense. He held guard positions in Atlit and Gan Yavneh, and then passed a course for police officers and was later sent to Kiryat Shaul. At the same time he began his studies at the police academy. On 2 Cheshvan, 18.10.1936, on his way to the police academy, he was killed in a car accident at the age of 30. He left a wife, a son and a daughter. His daughter, Esther Sandishev. died in 1948 during the War of Independence.
